Grovedale Kindergarten offers two groups: Wattles (Monday/Tuesday, 7.5 hour sessions) and Banksias (Wednesday to Friday, 5 hour sessions). There are 22 positions in each group for 4 /5 year old children, with two educators for 15 hours per week.
We pride ourselves on offering ‘open-ended interaction, spontaneity, risk taking, exploration, discovery and connection with nature’ through our Bush Kinder program, which is included as part of the National Quality Standards as our curriculum basis.
“Nature is important to children’s development in every major way – intellectually, emotionally, socially, spiritually and physically.” (Kellert 2005). Frances Ming Kuo documents a positive link between nature and human health, and people with limited natural environments report with poorer health and greater medical symptoms.
The landscaping and updating of our playground was supported by our Parent Advisory Group. This work is continuing into 2017, to make our environment a natural space with plants to smell, feel, taste and admire, along with challenging skills. We believe that we all need to be protectors of our environment and planet, and this is our small way of introducing this concept to children.
As part of the linking of schools and early years education we acknowledge the effective transition and collaboration we have with Grovedale West Primary School.
We welcome visits with an appointment.
